There's a Lesson to be Learned Here

Kirk in Illinois said he wrote down David Petraeus for president, but he was easily ousted. Heck had ducked questions about Trump. And Ayotte had said he is no role model and withdrawn her support for the GOP nominee after the 2005 "Access Hollywood" tape became public. Clinton, like the Democratic Senate contenders, won all three states. Other Republicans who ran closer to Trump -- including Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr and Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt -- each won, aided by Trump's victories in their states. [More]
Good. We're stronger with that element self-purged.

Were I Trump, I'd be identifying, grooming and equipping supporters to challenge the deserters still remaining. Prominent among high-profile targets to be an example to others -- to get in line if not out of principle, then out of survival instinct -- would be this flake.

But of course McCain just got re-elected.

Arizona has no shartage of principled conservatives to run in a Republican primary, but McCain’s iron strangehold on the state party makes him all but impossible to oust. I suspect that whether we experience the same stonewalling with Flake is going to depend solely on whether Uncle John lends Jeff the keys to the family Abrams.
