DOJ weakest link in cartel gun smuggling wiretap leak

Department of Justice claims of privilege due to ongoing criminal investigations in a gun trafficking case involving Mexican cartels, wiretap applications, smuggled guns showing up at murder scenes, official corruption … it would seem a parallel in many ways to the yet unfolding Fast and Furious debacle. Today's Gun Rights Examiner column notes the weakest link, which also just happens to in some ways be the biggest beneficiary.

Terms of Endearment

From Stephen P. Wenger's 11/25 Defensive Use of Firearms email:

A List Member Replies: Gary Marbut, a name many may recognize as the author of the Montana Firearms Freedom Act comments:
In your email of today, I notice two items about "parking lot storage." This topic has generally been rebranded/redescribed as "Safe travel to work," to better reflect the most important effect, and to make it obvious that it is less about workplace rules than it is about civil rights. Your change of descriptor would be helpful.
Gary's point is well taken but his alternative term seem a bit cumbersome. How about “safe commuting”? It's already the law in Arizona but the semantic correction may be of value to RKBA activists in other states.
"Safe commuting." I like it.

Wenger puts out an invaluable, always interesting email list.  He tells how you can get on it on his website.

It not only will have no effect on "gun violence," it will also have no effect on gun ownership. What it will do is make Cook County gun shops less competitive. Closing them all down by hook or by crook is no doubt a key goal.

I won't be surprised if it results in a reduction in tax revenues as shopping out-of-county becomes more attractive.

I also can't help but notice that "Authorized Journalist" Ciara McCarthy calls herself a "reporter," but she couldn't manage to find one viewpoint that is against the tax.  I guess we should be thankful The Daily Northwestern allows comments.

Clarice: Lambs. And they were screaming.
Dr. Lecter: They were slaughtering the spring lambs?
Clarice: And they were screaming.
Dr. Lecter: And you ran away?
Clarice: No. First I tried to free them. I … I opened the gate to their pen, but they wouldn't run. They just stood there, confused. They wouldn't run. [More]

This Day in History: November 26

Having found it impracticable to move, suddenly, the whole Convention troops, British and German, and it being represented that there could not, immediately, be covering provided for them all at Fort Frederick, we concluded to march off the British first, from whom was the principal danger of desertion, and to permit the Germans, who show little disposition to join the enemy, to remain in their present quarters till something further be done.
