A Thousand Fathers

Forget results. A compliant media presenting them as "successful" is all that's needed. As long as the general perception is that "Crimestoppers" stops crime, the incentive is to be a part of it all. What's that JFK quote? "Victory has a thousand fathers..."

Here's today's Gun Rights Examiner column. Hopefully, some will want to distance themselves from paternity claims...

Stupid's Up

We learn all we need to know about Ben Cole from this comment he added to his obnoxious little rant:
I’ve got more damn guns than I can count...Guns really suck.
When it comes to sucking, who are we to argue with an expert? Ditto for stupid.

Bond is UK Top Gun

Just don't tell Daniel Craig. We don't want to upset him or anything.

Then again, I think all that money probably gives him a quantum of solace...

We're the Only Ones Prioritizing Enough

Police are set to prioritize the escalating juvenile gun culture on the Peninsula with programs such as a new gun buyback after the shooting deaths of four teenagers in Hampton and Newport News in as many months.
Well then, no need to worry. Everything's under control, isn't it?

If that's a good enough solution for highly trained professional "Only Ones," that's good enough for me, and I take back what I said.

We're the Only Ones Vindicated Enough

"It's very good news for both the officers involved," O'Neill said. "It's almost a day of vindication, because we said that as soon as all the facts came out, it would show there was no wrongdoing."
Ah, very good. No one should be prosecuted for having the means of defense and using it when justified.

Well, almost no one:
Charges remain against a fifth Iron Pigs member, Defense Department firefighter Erik Pingel, whose firearm possession was not covered under the federal statute permitting law officers to remain armed under most circumstances.

Pingel had a concealed-pistol permit from his home state, Colorado, but may have violated a South Dakota prohibition against carrying a firearm where alcohol is sold.
Sorry, chump.

I should have said "No 'Only One' should be prosecuted..."

You and I don't qualify, and are fair game for violent criminal attacks in bars. I think it has something to do with cops being able to tolerate alcohol better than the rest of us. Either that, or our lives just aren't as important...

The Play's the Thing

Desert Hills High School administrators and a school resource officer thought a pistol they approved for use in the play "Oklahoma" was a harmless imitation until a blank discharged from the gun Saturday and killed a 15-year-old student.
Here's more information on a story we talked about yesterday.
[T]the parent didn't tell authorities the gun was real.
Yeah, how are "authorities" supposed to know?

And, of course, what would a " gun report" by an "Authorized Journalist" be without this?
...a blank discharged from the gun...

...the gun that shot Tucker...

We're the Only Ones Along for the 'Roid Enough

What's more, the seller -- Brian Jackson, then a strength and conditioning coach for the much-heralded Oregon City High School girls basketball team -- told the informant he didn't worry about getting caught by the police because he was selling to the police...

"What you don't want is a more aggressive police officer...
What who doesn't want?

"Only Ones" on steroids. What could go wrong?

We're the Only Ones "All Dogs Go to Heaven" Enough

Twice in recent days, police officers have gunned down family pets in incidents where the animals posed little or no clear threat to humans.
That's something we've talked about many times here. My guess is, the type of "Only One" who would do this is pretty confident the system will back him up and the dog's owner won't respond in kind.

J.D. Tuccille tells me the use of the term "service revolver" is "actually from a quote from the local police chief. Maybe his department is where everybody else's gear goes to die. :)"

Technical Difficulties

As cops, our focus should be simple: stop the bad people among us from harming the good people.
Would that it were. But when edicts are tyrannical, there's a huge difference between "bad people" and good people who defy bad laws.

So until the day comes when that's recognized and applied in the field, I'd just as soon that you not focus on any basics that will make you more effective at controlling me and mine.

This Day in History: November 18

We are very sensible that your men, without some assistance, must suffer from the cold, in so severe a climate, and are anxious to do every thing in our power for their relief. From the very circumstance of their being ordered to join General Schuyler's Army, we supposed they were to be considered as Continental troops, and therefore no provision has been made for them by the Congress of this Colony. You say paper money will not pass there; no other can be procured here on any terms.
